SUNDAY Since we have been in The Netherlands, I have listened to the sacrament prayers each week in Dutch. Not understanding the language very well, I have been reading the prayers in English as the sacrament is being passed. Today, I focused on the phrase 'are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son'. I decided to think of one of the Savior's names (titles). The first thing that came to mind was Finisher . As I repent (turn away from sin and toward God) I do all I can to bring my will in alignment with God. But it is Jesus Christ who will finish the work It is only through Him and His atonement the I can become f inished , complete and perfect. He truly is the Finisher of my salvation. Occasionally we are able to hear our missionaries give their Welcome Home talk. Tonight we listened to Atticus Snow. When we first came to The Netherlands, he was serving in the Utrecht Ward so we have known him from the beginning. He spent the past 14 months serving on the Content...

SUNDAY Lukas and Camille Maring will be moving next Saturday to Den Haag. He was released as a counselor in the Bishopric and she from the Primary. Both will be missed by the Utrecht Ward. Sam Lund was sustained as the counselor in the Bishopric. He is an American, served his mission in Chile, so he speaks English and Spanish. He is working on Dutch. Most members of our ward speak or at least understand English. We also have several Spanish speakers. Leana has been to church for three weeks in a row and is now on date for baptism September 10. She is a wonderful person, has a great desire to know the principles of the gospel and follow Jesus Christ.  MONDAY Doug was invited by our District Leader Elder Wood to give the Spiritual Thought in District Council today. Following is his outline: Spiritual Thought on Testimony WHAT IS A TESTIMONY President Oaks: “A testimony of the gospel is a personal witness borne to our souls by the Holy Ghost that certain facts of eternal significanc...

SUNDAY Emily and AJ have been on a cruise with stops in France and Italy along with a day in Barcelona. They added a few days in The Netherlands to see us and arrived at church today after flying into Eindhoven from Barcelona, took a train to Utrecht and a taxi to the church. It is so good to see them! On the way home, Gerrit (driving the van) reached to hand AJ a book, hit the curb and soon realized we had a flat tire. Pulled off to the side of the road and discovered BOTH tires on the drivers side were flat. Doug is aware of how roadside service works here, so began to make phone calls.  Sam Lund was riding with us and is very familiar with public transportation and decided to just go home. Since we had no idea how long it would take to get help and even then the van would likely need to go to a shop tomorrow, Emily, AJ, Norma and I decided to go with him and get back to Gouda. Doug and Gerrit stayed to look after the van. Tender mercies followed. Not only were they able to...

SUNDAY A good day at church with several people there for the first time along with some visitors. One first-time person met with the Elders earlier this week and today asked what he needed to do to be baptized. They will follow up with more lessons this week! Another person is a neighbor to David and Pamela Markus. She is very friendly and loved church. She said she will be back next week.  A quiet afternoon to study and catch up on the journal. It is easier to record things daily, but last week was so busy...early mornings and late nights...so today was a good catch up day. About 9pm, Doug got a call from Sam Lund from our ward. He said Sonia, a sister from our ward that rides to church with us each week, was very distraught because of her son. We didn't get all the details but Sam said Sonia was determined to go to the location she thought her son would be. She has no car so he was wondering if we could take her. Not knowing any more than that, we put on shoes an...
