SUNDAY Doug was asked a couple days ago to speak in church today. He gave a great talk about our Heavenly Father's love for us and how we can show our love for Him. It was all in Dutch and the comments we heard afterward confirmed that the translation and the pronunciation was excellent. 😄 This afternoon we visited the Koppe family. Their second daughter, Romy, was born a few weeks ago and we wanted to take a little gift and get to know them better. Eldon was born and raised near Rotterdam and has lived here except for the two years he spent on a mission in Germany. Allie is American and moved here after she and Eldon were married six years ago. Their 4 year old daughter, Mina, is bilingual, learning in school and from her dad to speak Dutch.  MONDAY This afternoon, the APs asked Doug to help them with their presentation for Zone Conferences this week. The training will be on Finding Direction. They photographed him in various steps of finding directions on his phone an...

SUNDAY This morning, seemingly by chance, we read DC 100:1.  Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you, my friends Doug and Marcia, your families are well ; they are in  a mine hands , and I will do with them as seemeth me good; for in me there is all power. This is one of our favorite scriptures since we have been on our mission especially when we put our names in the verse. We know our families are being blessed for our missionary service. We are so grateful for the Lord's constant care. After church we went for a walk around Gouda. It really is a charming little city. Thanks again to technology, we were able to watch Dustin speak in the Oak Valley ward today. It is so nice to be able to participate from afar.  MONDAY Harrison Wright, released last week from the BNZ, came back to the office with his family. His parents and four younger siblings came from England to pick him up and see some of the places and people he has served. The APs getting ready for the Office St...

SUNDAY Today was my week to play the music for Sacrament meeting (I do it every other week) and today I decided to play the organ instead of the piano. Even though I have had this calling many times before, I am never really comfortable with it. But it went well and I hope to get to know this organ better and use it often. The first person to bear his testimony today was a man who was visiting, but lived here many years ago. His wife joined the Church 30 years ago, but he had no interest. He was raised Catholic so he knew a bit of the scriptures but really had no desire. Until a few months ago. He realized he had never prayed and decided he needed to do it. Later that night he had a scripture come to his mind, 2 Nephi 17. He tried to put it out of his mind, but the next morning it was still there seemingly in big gold letters in his mind. Finally, he read the chapter and had an amazing experience that told him it was all true. He called his wife, asked if she was home because he ha...

SUNDAY Today at Church President Fred and Sister Yvonne Brandenburg of the Den Haag Temple visited our ward and spoke. I was especially impressed with Sister Brandenburg's thought about covenants . She said, "just as more strands in a rope make it stronger, the more covenants we make with God will strengthen our bond with Him".  I love the thought that our covenants bind us closer to God. The 5th Sunday in the Utrecht Ward also means a Ward Potluck after church. It seems every time more and more people stay and enjoy food and socializing. It is so important to connect with the ward members, especially here where the boundaries are so large and people simply do not see each other except for Sunday. There is another returning family that has been to church a couple times now. Mark is the dad, his wife was sick and stayed home with two kids today, but he had his little daughter, Liara with him. They have lived in the Netherlands for 3 1/2 years now. They cam...
